Here at The Dog Blog we are constantly trawling articles, websites, facebook pages, tweets and much more to learn how much people love their dogs. This is the amazing thing about having a dog, they really are your best friend - they give you unconditional love, they don't talk back, they are always there to listen, they always are ready for a cuddle and they love keeping fit with you too!

Well it's summer here in Australia and at the moment many of our states are experiencing hotter than average temperatures and this will affect your dog and your pets. There are some simple things you can do to ensure that your dog and other pets have enough fresh water and shade during the heat of the day.

Trainer Nic has seen many dogs in New York. Their owners take them out regularly for their 'bathroom' stops and to have a sniff and a walk around. There are all different shapes and sizes to be seen here and many have coats on and various pieces of equipment are used when out for their walk.

Chest harnesses are used a lot here to walk the dogs. Some choker chains and also prong collars. These are illegal in Australia, but are used here it seems.

Dog Parks are offleash areas whereby your dog can run around and interact with everyone and everything. Most dogs get on well, but not every dog.

Remember this, don't expect your dog to get on with every other dog.

If your dog gets into a play fight, but it then stems to a more aggressive interaction, don't try to break it up with your hand. Your hand will not win the fight if teeth connect with you.

There are so many clients that come to me saying, "how does my breed go with socialising?", "what was the breed originally bred for?", "my breed is known for its aggression isnt it?"

All of these questions and more never have the same answers.  The dog breed does have certain quirks and at the end of the day your dogs personality is always different to any other dog and also the behaviours you are seeing will be mainly environmental, however some will be because of the breed you have chosen.

This is hard to get with dogs, people need the right training to understand how to do this properly. Most people use the wrong equipment as well. I wish there was more equipment on the market that provided the right tools for what common people want. My mums and dads out there who want to be able to walk their dog out there nicely on the lead simply don’t know what to buy or what’s best for their breed, size of dog.
