Separation Anxiety in your dog
Trainer Nic deals a lot with separation anxiety in dogs. It is a very common issue and most dogs are actually experiencing anxiety without the owners realising it. Some of the symptoms are -
Your dog follows your everywhere, stuck to you like a piece of tape!
Your dog steals precious items that are personal to you or the household.
Your neighbours complain about your dog constantly whining and barking when you are not home.
Your dog bites or licks at itself constantly and causes problems with its skin and coat.
If your dog has any of these symptoms, you should speak to your vet about what they recommend, and usually it will be a combination of medication and behaviour training that will get your dog on track. There are various medications available and your vet would soon let you know which one is best depending on the problem your dog is having.
Separation anxiety is covered in our puppy schools along with much more information and it's important as dog owners you understand how serious this problem can be.
Separation anxiety in your dog can take weeks to months to fix, if it can be fixed at all.
Consult your veterinarian and then decide the best way forward!
